I was walking down the lane with one of my best friends, Lucy. Me, Lucy and my other friend Emma were supposed to go to the cinemas tonight but since Emma caught the chicken po, me and Lucy couldnt bear to go without her, so we spent nearly all day in the park wondering what our friend might be wondering…

“Its no fun without Emma.” sighed Lucy, breaking the silence as we walked towards her house on the edge of the street. As Emma was the lively, loud and adventurous one out of all three of us, she was the one who kept out lives worth while.

“At least I got allot of DVDs for us to watch.”smiled Lucy as we carefully entered her house. I couldn’t say anything, I felt like a third of me was missing. Lucy got me to stay at hers for absolutely ages. After a while I finally got some words out of my mouth, ” I’m really sorry Lucy, but I must be getting home.” Lucy nodded and said goodbye before watching me exit the room.

As I walked through the silent evening darkness I saw a faint silhouette walking towards me me. I stopped right where I was a gasped. It was dad. He walked right up to me, grabbed me by the hand and dragged me home.

When I got home dad sat me on the sofa and raised an eye brow. I cant believe he can do this to me. Grounded for a month! All I did was stay out a little late, well OK a lot late, but he didn’thave to be that mean. As I was lying in my bed, I started to wonder about Emma and Lucy, and what they would say about me being grounded for a month. I don’t even know if Emma will be at school tomorrow, so its no point thinking about her.

The next day at school when I got to my desk Lucy was already there waiting for me to tell her everything. I looked around, the teacher still hadnt arrived at the class room. I walked over to Lucy’s desk and told her what happened. She started to sulk. I don’t know why she should be sulking, I’m the one that’sgrounded. I told her that and she got angry, she told me she was just trying to comfort me. Lucy and Emma are the only ones who care about me. No one else would like to care about dumb old Beckie.

Waking up at six in the morning is a very hard thing to do when you’re a great big sleepy head like me. As I rolled out of bed I could definitely feel and headache coming on. No sooner after I stood up, my phone started to ring, I grounded with tiredness as I slowly picked it up. What a surprise. It was Lauren. Out of all the times she could have rang, it had to be now.

 

I answered, trying to be casual.
“Hannah, Hannah, we’ve won!” said Lauren, sounding very excited.
“Won what?” I asked curiously.
“I entered us into a competition for free scholarships for the best boarding school in America!” answered Lauren, practically shouting.
“B, b, boarding school?” “America?” I said, now wide awake.
“Just meet me in the park at ten, and I’ll tell you the rest!” Lauren said.
“What about school?” I asked bravely.
“School?” “Its Saturday!” said Lauren, confused.
Woops.

 Walking to the park is very exhausting because there are lots of roads to cross and even more cars to wait for. Lucky Lauren. She only has to walk up her street and she’s there. No wonder why she picked that for our meeting place.
“You’re finally here!” “I’ve been waiting for ten minutes!” said Lauren, sounding impatient.
“Sorry.” “You know how long it takes me to get here.” I said, sighing.
“What’s the matter Hannah?” asked Lauren.
“Well…” “This has all happened really quickly, and I don’t really think I want to go to boarding school.” I said, feeling babyish.
“But!” “You can’t say no now. We’ve won, and besides if you don’t try it you won’t know what it feels like.” “You might really enjoy it.” said Lauren, shocked.
“I don’t really think I will enjoy it.” I answered quickly.
“Well fine!” shouted Lauren, now very angry.

I live a very boring life. You wouldn’t realise that, until I explain the one main little thing that I do. I work in the circus. I hate it there, though you may think it would be exciting. Nope, it’s completely boring. All the acrobats and lion tamers… Well I am rubbish at all that stuff. Though, I am good at jokes. No one really comes to the circus to see jokes, though my mum really wants me to be part of the circus like the rest of the family so I have to do plain ordinary jokes. And, it is not like I have many of those plain ordinary jokes. I bet I only have about five. They aren’t really funny either, though the reason that I said I am good at jokes is because, they always seem to get the audience laughing. I am not sure if they laugh at the jokes or laugh at me, though, they laugh constantly.

 It is even more boring on the weekends, when I don’t even have the circus people to keep me company. Only my mum and my little devil sister. My sister, Emily, is so annoying that she actually makes you want to storm out of the house and never come back. For example, once when my mum was at work in the circus doing some jobs, and I wanted to go out to the cinemas with my friends, she had to come with me. She screamed and screamed so loud that literally half the cinema left.

“Answer something!” whispered Lily, as she nudged me repeatedly, “Do you want to go outside or not?” I groaned. Our teacher was doing that thing when you can only go out to play once you have answered a question. I hate getting detention or staying inside, but I hate answering questions equally. Lily has answered a question, now. Eight times seven. Of course, I am not dumb so I know the answer, its just I hate putting my hand up and answering. It makes me feel horrible.

    “What is two times two?” asked Miss Davies, looking at me especially. A few people sniggered. They all think I’m stupid. Just because I don’t respond to any questions, doesn’t mean I am dumb. “Megan?” said Miss Davies, staring at me.

“Three, miss.” I replied, grinning. Of course, I answered wrong on purpose, and Miss Davies knew that too. She then started to get furious.

“Megan Stewart!” she shouted across the classroom, “Get to detention, immediately!” I didn’t start sobbing, like Sarah Howards would do. I just shrugged my shoulders and walked out the room. I didn’t walk right, towards the grey, dirty detention room doors, but I walked left, towards the main entrance. Luckily for me, there was no teacher behind the messy desk. As I walked closer to the automatic doors, they opened. I walked off, like I didn’t care. I didn’t care, actually. Not one bit. As I walked out of the school, I saw Lily on the playground. Fortunately, no one saw me, except Lily. She mouthed,

“Megan?” I know she was wondering if she should tell me off, but even Lily wouldn’t do that. She was too trustworthy, even if she is a goody two shoes. She was astonished by my behaviour. Everyone else would be too.

    It is just another ordinary day. School, homework, getting told off by teachers and parents. All that sort of stuff. I woke up at eight today, an hour later than usual. The bus leaves at half eight, so I don’t have a problem. Not that I would care if I was late for school. I might get a telling off or something, but nothing serious.

“Kate!” cried my friend, Caitlin, as I walked towards the bus stop.

“Hi!” I replied. I hopped onto the bus and sat at the back, my usual space. Unfortunately, Caitlin sometimes gets travel sick so she has to sit right at the front.

School went past really fast. Before we knew it, we had done Maths, English, Science and we had already been to Assembly.

“Wanna come to the park?” asked Caitlin, as we walked out of the school grounds, “It’s a lovely day.”

“Umm I will ask my mum.” I replied, “She might get worried if I go without letting her know.” That wasn’t exactly the real reason. Mum doesn’t care where I go, as long as I am back before my curfew. Caitlin sighed and said,

“Alright then.” I grinned and waved at her as she headed towards Acorn Park. Well, you are probably wondering what the real reason why I am going home first is. Well, every day when I come home from school, she always has some exciting news to tell me. I can’t wait for today’s.

“Kate!!” my mum yelled, as I walked towards the door. She was jumping, which is very strange.

  I walked inside the kitchen.

“I have some wonderful news!” she cried. I waited patiently. “We’re moving!” I gasped.

“No!” I screamed.  I quickly ran to Acorn Park, where Caitlin was waiting. “We’re moving!” I told her.
